Have you ever wondered about what it’s like to live in the heart of New York City? I can only speak from my perspective about my favorite things, but I’ll be adding in the discoveries shared by my out of town students. I invite other New Yorkers from our community to add their favorites so that our guests from out of town who come here either for seminars, for Group or for Practitioner Skills development, can get some ideas about what they can do after class is over each day.

Day Views of NY City Dressed for the Holidays

December is always a busy month wherever you are. In Manhattan streets and attractions are filled with visitors.

The City is particularly wonderful for me in December. There are annual events I attend and I enjoy seeing the decorations and festive lights everywhere.

The pictures on this slide show are first of Fifth Avenue at 58th Street. The fountain is in front of both Bergdorf Goodman, (the department store of Sex and the City fame- where Carrie loved to buy her shoes) and the main entrance of The Plaza Hotel.

You’ll see the crystal snowflake that is illuminated at night on 57th Street and Fifth Avenue; the inside of Bergdorf’s dressed up for the holidays; a view of Central Park from a restaurant in Bergdorf’s and; FAO Schwartz toy store.

One day last week I went to Avery Fisher Hall, in Lincoln Center, and witnessed a rehearsal of the NY Philharmonic, www.nyphil.org. They played Handel’s Messiah with the New York Choral Artists. The music was glorious and it was interesting to see the artists perfecting their performance.

The second set of pictures in the slideshow are of daytime Lincoln Center. On the right is Avery Fisher Hall, in the center rear is The Metropolitan Opera House and on the left is the home of the NY City Ballet at the NY State Theater.

Although we usually don’t have seminars in December, you might think about coming to Group as an excuse to visit the City.

A Glimpse of New York City Nightlife

In New York City there are so many places you might want to visit that are a part of this city’s never-ending source of quality entertainment. I love to go to  Jazz at Lincoln Center which is housed in the Time Warner Center on Columbus Circle .

My friends and I often go to Dizzy’s Club, www.jalc.org/dccc to have a bite to eat, and hear outstanding  live jazz musicians. In this picture you are seeing Cyrus Chestnut, Stacy Dillard, Dezron Douglas and Willie Jones III.

Not only is the food decent and the music great, but the view of the sky over Central Park at twilight or night, with the glittering lights of the buildings across the Park feeds my sense of beauty.

I’ll tell you more about what’s great in the Time Warner Center very soon.

More Views From Central Park

About a week and a half ago I enjoyed one of the last days of autumn while on my walk in Central Park.  I’d like to share it with you.

It was crisp and sunny as I passed the back of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. www.metmuseum.org

First I saw the outside of the wing that houses the Temple of Dendur.

On my right was Cleopatra’s Needle, the Obelisk in Central Park. ( click here for more info on Cleopatra’s needle and what’s in the time capsule buried beneath it http://www.centralparknyc.org/visit/things-to-see/great-lawn/obelisk.html).

Soon I could see a different view of The Boathouse Restaurant than I showed last time in the slide show, and I walked down the path to Bethesda Fountain. You can now see the opposite view from the one I showed last time from inside the restaurant.

This was my last glorious day in autumn with my camera in Central Park. I hope you enjoyed the views and that you’ll come see it for yourself.
